Milo Dinosaur is an iced Milo drink made with milk, sweetened condensed milk, ice and a generous heap of dry Milo powder on top. Popular in Malaysia and Singapore, it's cold, creamy, chocolatey and malty, with a scoopable Milo topping that slowly mixes into the drink as you sip.
This homemade version takes about 5 minutes and doesn't need a blender. The dry Milo layer might look chaotic, but it's exactly the point.

What does Milo Dinosaur taste like?
It tastes like a cold, creamy chocolate-malt drink with a sweet condensed milk richness. The dry Milo on top gives it a crunchy, malty layer that slowly mixes into the drink as you scoop and sip.
Milo Dinosaur vs Milo Godzilla
A Milo Dinosaur is an iced Milo drink topped with extra dry Milo powder. A Milo Godzilla is the richer version, usually with a scoop of ice cream added on top. Milo King Kong takes it even further with extra ice cream, whipped cream, sauces or sprinkles.
Why you'll like this Milo Dinosaur
- Ready in 5 minutes - no blender needed.
- Cold, creamy and malty - made with milk, Milo and sweetened condensed milk.
- The topping is the fun part - the dry Milo gives you that scoopable, crunchy layer.
- Easy to adjust - add more condensed milk for sweetness or more Milo for a stronger malt flavour.
- Make-ahead friendly - mix the drink base and chill it, then add ice and dry Milo just before serving.
Key Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
**Please see the recipe card at the bottom of this post for the full list of ingredients.

Milo
This is the chocolate-malt powder that gives the drink its flavour. You'll use some in the drink and extra dry Milo on top. Don't skip the topping, it's what makes it a Milo Dinosaur.
Milk
Whole milk gives the creamiest drink, but semi-skimmed/2% milk will also work. For a richer café-style version, replace a little of the milk with evaporated milk.
Sweetened condensed milk
Adds sweetness and creaminess. Start with 2 tablespoons, then add more if you like it sweeter.
In the UK and South Africa, this is often labelled condensed milk. In the US, it's usually labelled sweetened condensed milk.
Ice
Fill the glass with ice before pouring in the Milo mixture. Crushed ice makes it feel more like a café drink, while cubes keep it simple.
Optional Milo rim

This is purely decorative, but it makes the drink look extra fun. Do this before making the Milo Dinosaur, while the glass is still empty.

1. Pour a couple of tablespoons of condensed milk onto a small plate. Roll the outside rim of the glass in the condensed milk, making the line as thin or wide as you like.

2. Add a couple of tablespoons of Milo powder to another small plate. Roll the sticky rim in the Milo until coated, then set the glass aside while you make the drink.
How to make a Milo Dinosaur

1. Warm half the milk in the microwave or in a small saucepan until hot, but not boiling.

2. Add the Milo powder and stir until fully dissolved. This prevents clumps in the drink.

3. Stir in the remaining cold milk.

4. Add the sweetened condensed milk to taste.

5. Fill a tall glass with ice.

6. Pour the Milo mixture over the ice.
7. Spoon a generous mound of dry Milo powder on top.
8. Serve immediately with a straw and a long spoon so you can scoop the dry Milo as you drink.
Milo Dinosaur variations
- Milo Godzilla - add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
- Milo King Kong - add ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles.
- Neslo - add 1-2 teaspoons of instant coffee.
- Extra creamy - replace a little milk with evaporated milk.
- Blended Milo Dinosaur - blend the drink with ice for a slushy version.
- Milo shake - blend with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Storage and make-ahead
Milo Dinosaur is best served straight away once the ice and dry Milo topping are added. To make it ahead, mix the Milo, milk and condensed milk, then chill the base in the fridge for up to 2 days. Add ice and the dry Milo topping just before serving.
